My husband and I recently moved to Texas due to his work as a contractor for the US Army. We decided to stay near the military base where he was working, so we found a really cheap apartment nearby.
During the first few weeks of living at the apartment, we didn’t experience anything unusual. But after my husband started working the early morning shift, things got weird.
My husband wakes up every weekday at 3 a.m. to prepare for work on the base. I often wake up around the same time to cook him breakfast before he leaves.
About 10 to 15 minutes after my husband left for work every day, I would hear weird noises coming from the kitchen, as if someone was touching and moving stuff in the kitchen.
At first, I didn’t think much about it, and I thought it might just be a rat causing all the noises. But then it started to happen more often, and sometimes the noises would jump from the kitchen to the living room. I told my husband about it, but he brushed it off as nothing and told me not to worry about it.
One day, after my husband had just left for work, I had a weird feeling that something was watching me, which freaked me out, so I decided to leave all the lights on in the house.
I was lying on the bed on my phone when I heard something heavy fall in the living room. I got up and rushed to see what had fallen. When I got there, I scanned the room to see what had fallen, but to my surprise, everything was in its place.
I called my husband to tell him what I had just experienced, but once again, he told me that it was nothing.
Another day, after my husband had just left for work, I was really tired and decided to go back to sleep. I had just gotten back in bed and was just about to fall asleep when I heard someone unlock the front door and come into the house. The person was wearing boots, so I assumed it was my husband since he sometimes forgot something and returned home to grab it.
I could hear my husband opening the kitchen cabinets as if he were looking for something. I called out to him from the room and asked him what he was looking for. I waited for an answer but didn’t get one.
A couple of seconds later, he made his way down the hallway, and I could hear him approach our room. Since he hadn’t heard me earlier, I thought maybe he didn’t know I was still awake, so I pretended to be asleep and would jump up and scare him as he came into the room.
My eyes were squinted and locked on our bedroom door as I waited for him to open it. For some reason, the moment I heard him grab the doorknob, I felt a sense of uneasiness within me, so I decided not to jump up and scare him.
Instead, I watched him awkwardly enter the room, his hands and arms straight out, as if he were trying to scare me. It wasn’t until I saw his face that I knew something was wrong!
Whatever this thing was, he looked exactly like my husband as he entered the room with a grin. He moved awkwardly and locked his eyes on me as he walked closer to the bed. After witnessing this, I was so frightened that I squeezed my eyes shut and pretended to be asleep.
Moments later, I felt it sit on the bed before crawling to the space behind me. It positioned itself behind me as if it was going to spoon me. This thing moved its head closer, and I could hear deep breathing right behind my ears, which gave me goosebumps all over my body. It made a whimpering sound that reminded me of a dog, but it was more profound as if it were a lion doing it.
At this point, my head was spinning around in circles, and I started to feel like I was going to faint due to all the fears and emotions I was going through. I wanted to jump out of bed and make a run for it, but I was too terrified to even move.
A few seconds felt like an eternity as I could feel it inching closer and closer to me. Then out of nowhere, it spoke to me, calling me by my name and asking if I was asleep, IN MY HUSBAND’S VOICE!
I leaped out of bed and dashed for the front door. Luckily for me, as I made my way out of my apartment, one of my neighbors was outside smoking a cigarette, and I ran over to him.
The look on his face as I tried to describe what had just occurred must have convinced him I was crazy. After listening to my story and trying to comfort me, he asked me if he could go into my apartment to check if anyone was there.
I followed him to my apartment door but didn’t dare go inside and told him I would wait for him by the entryway.
A couple of minutes after stepping in, he returned and assured me that no one was in my apartment, which terrified me even more.
Afterward, I stayed at my neighbor’s apartment and waited for my husband to return home. I was so scared that I refused to enter the apartment again. Instead, we booked a motel a few blocks down the road and stayed there for a couple of weeks until we found a new place.
To this day, I still don’t know what happened. I do not believe in the supernatural, but I just can’t explain what happened. How come that thing looked like my husband? Why did he sound just like him!? Why was it grinning!?
